Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC)

General introduction

The Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) is designed for the assessment and treatment of patients in what is called an ‘ambulatory format’. This means that patients are assessed, diagnosed and treated, and able to go home within the same day, without being admitted into hospital overnight.

How to access this service

Patients can be referred to the service through their GP, Urgent Community Response (UCR) or by being transferred from the Emergency Department (A&E). SDEC currently sees medical patients only and does not accept surgical patients at this time.

The department is located on the ground floor of Warrington Hospital and is easily accessible to all patients from the Appleton Wing corridor. There is also an access door on the side of the building. A hearing loop is in place in the department.
