Pathology Department


General introduction

Pathology is an integral part of the clinical support services at the Trust and performs tests which support care and treatment in hospital and community settings. The department is divided into four sections: 

•    Biochemistry (including Immunology and point of care testing)
•    Haematology and Blood Transfusion
•    Histopathology and Cytology
•    Microbiology (including virology and molecular)

How to access this service

Warrington Laboratory core opening hours Monday to Friday

  • Biochemistry, 9am to 5.30pm

  • Haematology and Blood Transfusion, 8.45am to 5.15pm

  • Histopathology and Cytology, 9am to 5pm

  • Microbiology, 8.50am to 5.20pm

Warrington Laboratory - service outside core hours

  • Biochemistry, Haematology / Blood Transfusion and Microbiology provide a 24-hour, seven day a week service
  • There is no service provision for Histopathology and Cytology outside core hours

Halton Laboratory core opening hours Monday to Friday

  • 9am to 5.30pm (please note the latest time for receipt of specimens for urgent processing in Halton is 4.45pm)
  • There is no onsite service at Halton on weekends or outside of core hours
