Children and Young People Respiratory Diagnostic Hub
Last updated: Wednesday 15 January 2025General introduction
Our clinic offers a respiratory diagnostic pathway for children and young people from age five to 17 in the Runcorn, Widnes, Halton areas. The clinic specialises in the early and accurate diagnosis of asthma using advanced tests.
These tests provide a clear and accurate assessment of respiratory health and include:
- Spirometry (Spiro)
This test measures how well your child’s lungs are working by evaluating the volume and speed of air they can inhale and exhale. Spirometry helps us detect and monitor breathing difficulties related to asthma in a child-friendly, non-invasive way. - Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) testing
This simple test measures the level of inflammation in the airways. Elevated FeNO levels can indicate asthma, helping us to pinpoint the condition and tailor a management plan specific to your child's needs.
We strive to create a welcoming environment within the clinic where families and young people feel supported and confident in managing their respiratory health.
During your visit to the clinic, the team will guide you through every step of understanding asthma and managing respiratory conditions at home, including identifying asthma triggers. Patients and families will also receive personalised education on inhaler techniques and treatment will include identifying the best medication options and signposting to additional information resources.
