Cardio-Respiratory Department - CPAP
Last updated: Friday 23 May 2025General introduction
CPAP stands for continuous positive air pressure. A CPAP device blows air into the upper airway during sleep, via a mask, to prevent the airway from collapsing and causing obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).
The amount of pressure required varies between people and you will be prescribed the correct pressure required to support your airways. There are a variety of masks available which can cover the nose or the nose and mouth. You will be fitted with a mask that is suitable for you at your clinic appointment. A correctly fitting mask is important for your therapy.
The CPAP service is located in the Cardio-Respiratory Department at Halton Hospital Nightingale Building.
This service is for our current CPAP patients. If you are waiting for results of a sleep study we are unable to help with this and you will need to contact the main hospital Outpatients department via the hospital switchboard (01925 635911).
