We are delighted to announce that the HR Business Partnering Team at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals (WHH) have been shortlisted at the Healthcare People Management Awards (HPMA) 2025. The HPMA Excellence in People Awards recognise and reward outstanding work in healthcare human resource management.

They have been recognised in the ‘Health Education and Improvement Wales Award for developing the profession and people professionals’ category for their work to develop a structured career development pathway within the human resources department. The shortlisting recognises the team’s commitment to advancing the HR profession and supporting people professionals to thrive.

Through the introduction of the initiative, the department worked together to cultivate a culture of continuous learning that empowers colleagues to take ownership of their personal and career development.

By integrating competency frameworks into daily practice, they have transformed resource materials into active tools that support staff to focus on their individual career aspirations, create personalised development plans that are aligned to professional standards, and address any skill gaps.

As a result of the initiative, the team have successfully increased staff motivation and job retention, supported career growth and enhanced skills within the HR department.

Laura Hilton, Associate Chief People Officer – HR Business Partnering and Organisational Development at WHH, said: “It is fantastic to see the hard work of the team recognised alongside so many inspiring teams. It’s a testament to the passion, collaboration and innovation that drives our work every day. A huge thank you to everyone involved – your dedication continues to make a real difference.”

The winners of the 2025 HPMA Excellence in People Awards will be announced at the ceremony which will be held in Birmingham on Thursday 20 November.
