Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals appointment letters are going digital
Published date: Thursday 28 August 2025
From September, Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals (WHH) will no longer send paper appointment letters to most patients who are registered with the NHS App or have a mobile phone number on file.
Patients with an upcoming appointment will instead receive a notification in the NHS App and a text message that includes all their appointment information.
Switching to digital-only letters is part of the Trust’s ongoing commitment to improving communications with patients, reducing delays in receiving important healthcare information and supporting our efforts to become more environmentally friendly.
Managing appointment letters online also makes it more convenient for patients to view their appointment details and access information at any time via the NHS App and patient portal.
Emma O’Brien, Head of Digital Programmes at WHH, said: “By moving from paper letters to digital-only communication, we can communicate with patients faster and reduce unnecessary postal delays; saving costs and valuable printing and paper resources - making our processes more efficient and environmentally friendly.”
