Vital estates funding awarded to Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals is set to benefit from more than £3 million of estates and infrastructure upgrades as part of new government funding.

The Department of Health and Social Care has today (Friday 30 May) announced a £750 million Estates Safety Fund to support the NHS to deliver vital building maintenance and safety improvements.

The national Estates Safety Fund will support a wide variety of schemes, including building repairs and upgrading infrastructure, to enhance patient and staff environments and help to reduce disruptions for clinical services. 

As part of this funding, Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals has been awarded £3.1 million to improve and modernise building management systems, upgrade and replace lifts, carry out essential roof replacements, and upgrade ventilation systems in critical areas such as theatres. 

The funding will also support the installation of a new nurse call system to enhance patient safety and improve efficiency. 

Daniel Moore, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive for Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals, said: “Like many other trusts across the country, we know that there is a significant need for investment into our hospital estate due to its age and condition.

“I am delighted that the Trust has been able to secure this vital funding which will support us to upgrade and modernise the most critical areas of our estate and infrastructure. 

“By investing we can ensure our buildings are fit for purpose, provide a safe environment to deliver patient care, and support the future delivery of strong and sustainable healthcare services for communities in Halton and Warrington.”

Projects completed with the funds will contribute to reducing carbon emissions, supporting the Trusts ambition to become greener, and a reduction in maintenance costs, in turn releasing vital cost savings that can be re-invested into frontline patient care. 

The Estates Safety Fund is part of a £1.2 billion funding package for hospitals and schools to drive improvements needed through the Plan for Change. Full details of the announcement can be found in on the Department of Health and Social Care website.
