Recently crowned world number one and Warrington-born darts star Luke Littler brought joy to families, patients and NHS staff this week after making a surprise visit to Warrington Hospital.

The local favourite took time out of his busy schedule to help lift spirits and give back to the community where he grew up, sharing gifts, playing games and offering well wishes ahead of the Christmas period.

Luke’s visit began on the children’s ward, where he spent time chatting with families, taking lots of selfies and photos and throwing some darts together with Ezra, Archie and other children on the ward. Luke also joined Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals Charity to help patients get into the festive spirit by handing out magnetic dartboards, which put plenty of smiles on young faces.

Ezra’s mum said: “It was so lovely that Luke took the time to speak with all the children and make them feel included. Ezra loved playing darts with him and I’m sure he’ll now want to follow in his footsteps!”
His warm and approachable nature provided a welcome distraction for those on the ward, creating moments that will stay with them long after their hospital stay.

After visiting the children’s ward Luke then visited ward A9, where he spent time chatting with patients, listening to their stories and offering his best wishes for their recovery. He also gifted patients with signed shirts and player cards.

Throughout the visit, Luke stopped for photos with nurses, staff, parents and patients, creating lasting memories and smiles for all involved.

Luke said: “Warrington is my home, and the support from people here means everything. If I can bring a tiny bit of happiness to families and patients going through tough times then it makes it all worthwhile.”

Helen Higginson, Head of Fundraising at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals Charity, added: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Luke to Warrington Hospital. His visit brought a real smile to the faces of children who need it most. We are extremely grateful for his kindness, generosity and for taking time out of his busy schedule.

“It’s amazing that our patients and staff were able to meet one of the biggest sports personalities from our town and to know that Luke supports his local community. It was a very special visit and we would like to thank him for his kind donations.”
