Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When will the service close?

The Nuclear Medicine Department at WHH will close and cease operations on 30 April 2025.

Where will future appointments be based?

As part of these changes patients will access nuclear medicine scans at larger, regional hospitals (where scans for some patients already take place) in the Cheshire and Merseyside area.

What travel options are available?

Travel availability and options will depend on the location and destination of each scan.

Traveline is a national travel planning service that provides public transport information, routes and times. To speak to the Traveline team, call 0871 200 22 33 or use the online Traveline journey planner to plan your journey from your current location to a specific hospital.

Will the changes impact the quality of services?

By accessing appointments in dedicated departments within larger hospitals, we expect there will be enhanced imaging quality and improved patient experience for those individuals who previously accessed nuclear medicine at Warrington.

Will the changes affect appointment availability?

The closure of WHH’s Nuclear Medicine Department will result in examinations being performed in bigger regional departments, which will offer more appointments, as well as increased appointment flexibility and service specialisms.
